French

At the end of last term we farewelled a lovely young French lady, Enora, who was on exchange from Paris for three months at our school. Enora spent time presenting information in some of the secondary classes with many eager students able to ask her firsthand what life is like for a teenager growing up in France.

In Primary Yr 1 and 2 French, students are accessing Language Nut to help with their speaking and listening skills. Yr1s have been practising vocabulary and expressions to do with family and pets, and Yr 2 have been focusing on parts of the body in French.

This term the Yr 7 students are learning to ask directions in French. They have also been consolidating almost a whole year of learning a new language with revision of the basics in French such as days, months, colours and numbers. They are also enjoying using Language Perfect, which is an amazing online tool that also allows the teacher to monitor each students’ progress.

Yr 8s are using more complex grammar structures to talk about what they will do in the near future, such as the upcoming summer holidays. Some of the Yr 8 students are showing their enjoyment of learning a new language by singing current hit songs in French and adding choreography. I very much look forward to seeing both the Primary and Secondary students perform at our campus’ Language Day to celebrate learning languages.
